The latest offering from the BYO)))ME, Earth Portals

the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble - Earth Portals

Pre-orders available now for the latest offering from the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble, EARTH PORTALS.
Release Date: 9/15/17

“We recorded (Earth Portals) about 2 years ago, doing yoga on a farm in West Virginia for a few days, but then we let it sit to work on other projects, or just whenever we’d get sick of working on it. There were a lot of challenges. Earth Portals has a totally different vibe than any of the other material we’ve ever done, and it’s WAY different than the Asanas Ritual 2 album we’re currently wrapping up, but I like it a lot. Hopefully some of you will, too.” – Scott Massie

A limited D.I.Y. pressing of 100 copies, hand assembled and numbered by Innervenus, come with a free screen printed patch and download codes for Earth Portals and “Asteya” (the first track released from the Asanas Ritual, Vol. 2 sessions), can currently only be acquired at the BLACK YO)))GA webstore or on Bandcamp.

New music from the Meditation Ensemble

We’ve been working on a lot of new music lately to get ready for Asanas Ritual Vol. 2. Some of the demos will be making their way to our SoundCloud page, such as this collaboration with Jim Wylde/sp3ct3rs. At 35 minutes, it seems perfect for morning practice. Enjoy.

“Cycle of Suffering” : Official Press Release

the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble @ Treelady Studios

Yoga is often used as a means of joining the body with the spirit to attain freedom and serenity. It is a way of drawing into oneself to unburden stress and pain as well as achieve focus and strength. Commonly, ambient sounds are used to assist in blanketing the noise of life and the world around us: to go deeper and achieve more when practicing yoga. While many may use the peaceful and soothing sounds of nature (rain, waves, birds chirping) some are drawn to darker forms of sound to drown out all distraction.

Lucky for us, the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble have endeavored to meet those needs by banding a collective of like-minded musicians together to craft the perfect complementary accompanyment to the Vinyasa style of yoga that is practiced and taught by Kimee Massie of BLACK YO)))GA. These artists and musicians worked together for months to perfect the musical soundtrack that gave birth to the Asanas Ritual, Vol 1. From that ongoing collaboration, the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble have brought forth four additional tracks entitled “Cycle of Suffering” that will be released digitally and on limited Compact Disc on September 30th. The Ensemble have created something new while pulling from doom, noise, traditional, ambient, and drone musical stylings.

While these tracks did not make the initial cut for Asanas Ritual, Vol 1, do not make the mistake of categorizing them as “afterthoughts” or “bookends”. These four tracks stand on their own. Let “Cycle of Suffering” envelop you in a sonic cocoon whether you are practicing yoga, meditating, or doing anything else.

The album is available for pre-order now as a digital download or as a limited to 300 compact disc here:

Decibel Magazine premiers new track, “Negative Confession”

BLACK YO)))GA - Negative Confession

Asanas Ritual, Vol. 1 is the forthcoming new full-length composed and performed by the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble, an eclectic group of metallic hippies and doomlords, headed up by BLACK YO)))GA founders, 200-hour RYT-certified instructor, Kimee Massie and her husband Scott Massie.

BLACK YO)))GA — vinyasa style yoga set to drone, noise, stoner metal, ambient, industrial, space doom, and other traditional meditation music — incorporates basic poses in a relaxed environment, while focusing on safe body mechanics. It’s a traditional yoga class in practice, however darker than what you may typically associate with the practice in the Western world. Since its 2012 inception, the music for classes has been a series of mix tapes… until now.

The BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble features members of Storm King, Veniculture, Agnes Wired For Sound, Moonstation Burning, Vulture, Deathcrawl, Complete Failure, Hero Destroyed, Filth On Demand, Secant Prime, Emay, Crown Of Eternity, Torrential Bleeding, and more. Together, the collective has produced original soundscapes tailored to create a heavy meditative space in order to spread the benefits of yoga to people within their own art and music communities: people who may battle depression, anxiety, alcoholism, drug addiction, trauma/PTSD, phobias, dark passengers, etc.; those who may not feel they fit into typical yoga classes.

Asanas Ritual, Vol. 1 will be released via Screaming Crow Records next month paired with an instructional BLACK YO)))GA DVD. Directed by Joseph Stammerjohn of Eyes To The Sky Films, the DVD contains a full one-hour yoga class, stylized and set to their original score.

In advance of its release, today Decibel Magazine is pleased to deliver the first helping of the audio edition of Asanas Ritual, Vol. 1 with the official premiere of grim fifth movement, “Negative Confession.”

Elaborates Massie, “‘Negative Confession’ is the fifth track on Asanas Ritual, Vol. 1, and introduces live drums into what was a more ambient record up until that point. It was written by Adam Weston, guitarist for Vulture and Storm King and was presented as an offering of things to come. The song first appeared in its original demo state on BLACK YO)))GA Mix No. 13 — though it was called ‘Becoming’ at that time, and as the Meditation Ensemble started coming together, the song became the transformational piece to the Ritual.”

The Asanas Ritual, Vol. 1 CD/DVD package will see release via Screaming Crow Records on October 30th, 2015 with the DVD alone to be unleashed in January.
