New music from the Meditation Ensemble

We’ve been working on a lot of new music lately to get ready for Asanas Ritual Vol. 2. Some of the demos will be making their way to our SoundCloud page, such as this collaboration with Jim Wylde/sp3ct3rs. At 35 minutes, it seems perfect for morning practice. Enjoy.

Little Spring Status Report

A little status report on things we’ve been up to behind the scenes…

Weekly BLACK YO)))GA classes at Exhale Pittsburgh are going great, the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble has new songs on 3 upcoming compilations, a music video and a separate series of live videos are about to be released, there’s a brand new album called “Earth Portals” that is finished and will be out this Fall, and finally, for those of you who have been asking, we’ve been getting ready all year and, YES, filming for “Asanas Ritual Vol. 2” begins in one week!

There’s also some other things, but we wouldn’t want to ruin ALL the surprises 😉
Have a great weekend!

“Cycle of Suffering” : Official Press Release

the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble @ Treelady Studios

Yoga is often used as a means of joining the body with the spirit to attain freedom and serenity. It is a way of drawing into oneself to unburden stress and pain as well as achieve focus and strength. Commonly, ambient sounds are used to assist in blanketing the noise of life and the world around us: to go deeper and achieve more when practicing yoga. While many may use the peaceful and soothing sounds of nature (rain, waves, birds chirping) some are drawn to darker forms of sound to drown out all distraction.

Lucky for us, the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble have endeavored to meet those needs by banding a collective of like-minded musicians together to craft the perfect complementary accompanyment to the Vinyasa style of yoga that is practiced and taught by Kimee Massie of BLACK YO)))GA. These artists and musicians worked together for months to perfect the musical soundtrack that gave birth to the Asanas Ritual, Vol 1. From that ongoing collaboration, the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble have brought forth four additional tracks entitled “Cycle of Suffering” that will be released digitally and on limited Compact Disc on September 30th. The Ensemble have created something new while pulling from doom, noise, traditional, ambient, and drone musical stylings.

While these tracks did not make the initial cut for Asanas Ritual, Vol 1, do not make the mistake of categorizing them as “afterthoughts” or “bookends”. These four tracks stand on their own. Let “Cycle of Suffering” envelop you in a sonic cocoon whether you are practicing yoga, meditating, or doing anything else.

The album is available for pre-order now as a digital download or as a limited to 300 compact disc here:

THE GUARDIAN, June 2015
Downward facing doom: when yoga meets heavy metal
By Kim Kelly
“Any workout playlist can be improved with a dash of heavy metal. Whether you’re lifting weights to Pantera, doing crunches to Destroyer 666, or trying and probably failing to time your cardio to Reign in Blood, hearing that raw power come screaming out of your headphones is a surefire way to kickstart a serious adrenaline rush. It makes sense on a deeper level, too: at its black heart, metal is all about catharsis, and pushing your body to its sweaty limit is right up there among the most cathartic things you can do without getting arrested.”
