The latest offering from the BYO)))ME, Earth Portals

the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble - Earth Portals

Pre-orders available now for the latest offering from the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble, EARTH PORTALS.
Release Date: 9/15/17

“We recorded (Earth Portals) about 2 years ago, doing yoga on a farm in West Virginia for a few days, but then we let it sit to work on other projects, or just whenever we’d get sick of working on it. There were a lot of challenges. Earth Portals has a totally different vibe than any of the other material we’ve ever done, and it’s WAY different than the Asanas Ritual 2 album we’re currently wrapping up, but I like it a lot. Hopefully some of you will, too.” – Scott Massie

A limited D.I.Y. pressing of 100 copies, hand assembled and numbered by Innervenus, come with a free screen printed patch and download codes for Earth Portals and “Asteya” (the first track released from the Asanas Ritual, Vol. 2 sessions), can currently only be acquired at the BLACK YO)))GA webstore or on Bandcamp.

Filming for Asanas Ritual, Vol. 2

BLACK YO)))GA - Asanas Ritual, Vol. 2 filming

We filmed the footage for Asanas Ritual, Vol. 2 a couple weeks ago at a gutted warehouse in the South Side of Pittsburgh, re-uniting once again with Joe Stammerjohn of Eyes to the Sky Films (eyestotheskyfilms.com) and the amazing crew that he put together for this one. SOOOO excited to see how it comes out. Right now, we’re looking at an early 2018 release date, FYI. In the meantime, thought you might like to see a photo of the set.

New music from the Meditation Ensemble

We’ve been working on a lot of new music lately to get ready for Asanas Ritual Vol. 2. Some of the demos will be making their way to our SoundCloud page, such as this collaboration with Jim Wylde/sp3ct3rs. At 35 minutes, it seems perfect for morning practice. Enjoy.

“Cycle of Suffering” : Official Press Release

the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble @ Treelady Studios

Yoga is often used as a means of joining the body with the spirit to attain freedom and serenity. It is a way of drawing into oneself to unburden stress and pain as well as achieve focus and strength. Commonly, ambient sounds are used to assist in blanketing the noise of life and the world around us: to go deeper and achieve more when practicing yoga. While many may use the peaceful and soothing sounds of nature (rain, waves, birds chirping) some are drawn to darker forms of sound to drown out all distraction.

Lucky for us, the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble have endeavored to meet those needs by banding a collective of like-minded musicians together to craft the perfect complementary accompanyment to the Vinyasa style of yoga that is practiced and taught by Kimee Massie of BLACK YO)))GA. These artists and musicians worked together for months to perfect the musical soundtrack that gave birth to the Asanas Ritual, Vol 1. From that ongoing collaboration, the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble have brought forth four additional tracks entitled “Cycle of Suffering” that will be released digitally and on limited Compact Disc on September 30th. The Ensemble have created something new while pulling from doom, noise, traditional, ambient, and drone musical stylings.

While these tracks did not make the initial cut for Asanas Ritual, Vol 1, do not make the mistake of categorizing them as “afterthoughts” or “bookends”. These four tracks stand on their own. Let “Cycle of Suffering” envelop you in a sonic cocoon whether you are practicing yoga, meditating, or doing anything else.

The album is available for pre-order now as a digital download or as a limited to 300 compact disc here:

THE GUARDIAN, June 2015
Downward facing doom: when yoga meets heavy metal
By Kim Kelly
“Any workout playlist can be improved with a dash of heavy metal. Whether you’re lifting weights to Pantera, doing crunches to Destroyer 666, or trying and probably failing to time your cardio to Reign in Blood, hearing that raw power come screaming out of your headphones is a surefire way to kickstart a serious adrenaline rush. It makes sense on a deeper level, too: at its black heart, metal is all about catharsis, and pushing your body to its sweaty limit is right up there among the most cathartic things you can do without getting arrested.”

From the official press release
(http://www.earsplitcompound.com/site/2015/06/08/black-yoga-joins-the-screaming-crow-records-roster/)

“…Since 2012, the music for classes has been a series of mix-tapes. This particular recording, however, was performed and created by the BLACK YO)))GA Meditation Ensemble, an eclectic group of metallic hippies and doomlords, headed up by Kimee’s husband, Scott Massie. This ensemble has created a soundscape tailored to form a heavy meditative space and spread the benefits of yoga to people in their own art and music communities. People who may battle depression, anxiety, alcoholism, drug addiction, trauma/PTSD, phobias, dark passengers, etc., those who may not feel they fit into the typical yoga classes, the people who, in all rights, may need the balance and release of yoga the most to lead rich and fulfilling lives.

This project consists of two releases. The first will be the BLACK YO)))GA DVD/instructional video, Asanas Ritual Vol 1, directed by Joseph Stammerjohn of Eyes To The Sky Films, containing a full one-hour yoga class, stylized and set to their original score. The second release will be a CD version of the soundtrack on its own. Both releases contain plenty of bonus features and will be available in stores and online October 2015 via Screaming Crow Records.”
